Jerry Riley lives in Nairobi, Kenya and works on local and international assignments and commissions. His fine art photography has been exhibited in galleries in East Africa, Western Europe and North America.  His commissioned images for the architectural, design, hospitality and agricultural industries are used in advertising campaigns and industry publications world-wide. He also works with artists and artistic institutions on studio portraits, portfolios, inventories and archival projects.

Jerry Riley's photography is based on his fascination with the relationships created by space, line and form as well as light.

"I have a background in music and in engineering.  I was taught composition by an artist who was both a sculptor and a painter.  These are strong influences in my photography.  I see visual rhythms and structural patterns.  I see repetitions in form, colour and spatial relationships.  These geometric patterns and spatial relationships are in everything.  They are in all the shapes and structures of natural and built environments.  They are in the way a person sits or stands and even in the crowds of people on a busy street.  They are in the reflections in mirrors or water or glossy surfaces. They are in the shapes of very large objects like mountains or buildings as well as in small and specific objets d'art or unconsidered things like a dying leaf on the ground.

Every element changes what can be seen because it changes these geometric relationships.  In this way people and objects are like music which enters and subtly changes a space simply by being present in it.  The space around a person or object is also an active factor.  It is not simply acted upon or filled with bodies and objects. It is part of the pattern because you can see the space and you can also see what is inside the space.

I see these relationships between people and other people, between people and things, and between things and other things as living geometries.  This is what makes the world fascinating to me.  This is what I try to show with my photography."
